Q: What are the differences between C2 and
.eLM?
A: C2 has been written in C++ and uses
Faircom for the database backend. .eLM is written in
JADE, which contains its own high performance,
object orientated database. C2 has been around
for over 20 years, .eLM has been in production since
2000. C2 requires some third party products for
additional functionality, .eLM requires none.
Q: Why have two library packages?
A: The .eLM project was originally started to
create a new library system built on new technology,
to eventually replace C2. But because C2 continued
to enjoy a large customer base, it was decided to
keep C2 as it is a firmly established product. We
decided to also continue with .eLM as that allows us
to provide new customers with a library system built
on new technology ad also giving them the choice to
opt for C2.
Q: What is a WebOpac?
A: The C2 WebOpac is an interface to C2 that
allows users to browse the library catalogue through
a simple web browser. This means that you can
have your patrons connect to your library
cataloguefrom home and browse for items and even
book them from home. You can view our C2
WebOpac demo by clicking on
